これは例えば、若者だって、自分の話を聴いてくれそうな年長者にしか、自分の思っていることを言わないわけで、「最近の若者は、何も考えていないな」などという年長者に対して、わざわざ話をしに行こうとする若者など滅多にいないのと同じだ。こういうことを言っている年長者は、この先もずっと若者を抑圧し、若者の考えを聞く機会を自ら潰し、「やっぱり、最近の若者は何も考えていないな」という思い込みを強化し、大切な何かに気付かないまま終わる。老害は他人事ではない。

もちろん、若者が年長者に自分の考えを言わないのは、「最近の若者は、何も考えていないな」などと言っている年長者が沢山いるからであり、虐待被害者が自らの被害を語ろうとしないのも、「親が酷いとはっきりわかる具体的な事例を語れ。さもなくば単なる親不孝な子供とみなす」などと言う人が沢山いるからだ。
